When Google started with Google Shopping, an unfair situation arose in the market for comparison websites.
The EU Commision has decided that Google Shopping Europe CSS should be split off from Google and in itself be profitable in the future.
For this reason Google Shopping Europe CSS currently holds a 20% profit margin on all bids as a service fee.
With a CSS link via a CSS Partner (Comparison Service or comparison website) you advertise 20% cheaper.
In this way fair competition is again created in the market for comparison websites.
“If you, as an advertiser at Google, offer 10 DKK, 2 DKK goes directly from that bid to Google as a service fee and only 8 DKK goes into the auction. In other words: A bid of 8 DKK with a CSS link is equal to a bid of 10 DKK without a CSS link”
